P18 – Exercise 2 – Doodling

“… make as many marks as your hand will let you …”

8B Graphite Pencil on A3 paper

Compressed Graphite Stick

The instructions for the second part of the exercise: “Now think of a subject such as water, flowers, buildings, patterns of light or even a recent dream. Allow the subject to influence the marks you are making…”

Doodle drawn in compressed graphite while thinking of New York skyscrapers.

Doodle drawn with the side of an 8B graphite pencil while thinking of the new Olympic venues such as the Velodrome  and Aquatics Centre. I did not find these photographs until after drawing the doodle.

Doodle drawn with a compressed charcoal stick after listening to the staccato violins from Hitchcock’s “Psycho”.

I may try some of other suggestions later.
