“Create a small still life composition from a small themed selection of objects.”
I chose items from my art box – pencil, reed pen, paint brush, scissors, two tubes of watercolour paint, pencil sharpener, ceramic pot and a white goose quill. I drew them with a fine liner pen.
I found that the most difficult part was the black handles of the scissors, where the highlights were still very dark grey, and the white pot, where the shadows were still very pale grey.
The Guidelines for Composition suggested ‘strong verticals’ which I tried to incorporate in the third landscape sketch by putting the pencil, paint brush and reed pen parallel and vertical. However I don’t think they add much to the composition.
