P130 Assignment Four – 1 Line and Shape

Pose your model on a hard chair. … Although this exercise is about line and shape, it’s still important to understand the complete form and having directional lighting will help.

I based the pose for this assignment on Tintoretto’s Susanna and the Elders. I felt that Sandra’s curves would work well in line and shape as she leaned forward creating several smooth creases.

I tried the pose from different angles and with variations. I also practised the hands and feet:

Soft graphite pencil

P130-Fig33

Fine liner pen

P130-Fig34

Charcoal

P130-Fig35

Soft graphite pencil

I liked the black lines obtainable in charcoal. The fine liner pen’s lines were too fine for this.
